Tim realised his seafaring ambitions by joining Blue Star Line of London in 1962 following two years of pre-sea training at the S.A.N.C “General Botha”(1960-1961).
He subsequently served with Ellerman & Bucknall and the South African Marine Corp (Safmarine), gaining his Masters (Foreign-Going) Certificate in Dublin in 1969.
He spent the following three years as Lieutenant (Executive Branch) in the South African Navy, serving in “W” class destroyers and “Ton” Class Minesweepers, before joining Land & Marine and Salvage Contractors in Cape Town as Master in 1974.
After five years in command of the company’s salvage tugs, he assumed the position of Operations Director, a post he held until 1984, when he was re-located to London to establish a subsidiary company, Maritime International (Offshore Services) Ltd, with the aim of providing independent marine salvage consultancy and broking services to the international marine insurance industry, and ship owners/managers worldwide.
He founded Marint (Offshore Services) Limited in January 1987, following the decision made by Head Office in Cape Town to cease activities in London.
