Captain Charles Leeraar

Charles went to sea in 1973 and served with S.A. Marine Corp (Safmarine), De Beers Marine and Unicorn Lines, serving on a wide variety of vessels including VLCC’s, cable-layers and salvage tugs prior to qualifying as Master (Foreign-going) in 1983. He joined the South African harbour service company Portnet in 1984, serving as Tugmaster, before being promoted to Pilot and subsequently Assistant Operations Manager.

In 1994 he joined Swansea-based West Coast Towing Co. Ltd as Operations Manager, being responsible for the efficient administering of the Company’s tug fleet in harbour, coastal and international towing operations.

Charles joined the MARINT team in August 1999 and overseas the Towage & Salvage Department.
